Mahsa Darabi is an Iranian-American chef, filmmaker, and founder of MAHSA CHAI®. Born in Iran and raised in Oregon, Mahsa has long used food as a way to explore identity, belonging, memory, and connection.
Through her work as a chef, food educator, and creator of The Moody Persian, she has shared the traditions and stories of Persian food while inviting others to find their own sense of home through the table. Her documentary, Mahsa (or, the Girl That Ate Her Way Home), continues that exploration through the lens of food, immigration, and belonging.
MAHSA CHAI® grew from that same spirit. What began as Mahsa’s personal search for a deeply nourishing, caffeine-free chai ritual became a company rooted in spice, tradition, wellness, and community.
In her teaching, Mahsa brings together food, story, ritual, and curiosity, creating space to slow down, connect, and experience chai not simply as a drink, but as a way of coming home to ourselves and to one another.
